ADWA Committees and Projects
ADWA committees and projects are composed of selected board members, interested ADWA members, and invited subject-matter experts. At this time, ADWA operates ad hoc committees and projects rather than standing, regularly scheduled committees. This flexible approach allows us to continue vital work as needs arise.

Adhoc Committees:
In the past, ADWA maintained standing committees with regular meetings. These committees are no longer active, but included:
Competency Committee (Formerly known as ‘Certification Committee’)
The Certification Committee conducted a pilot that researched the development a certification process, reviewing core competencies and designing implementation. That certification model is currently on hold as we continue to support all stakeholders in new endeavors.
Governance Committee
The Governance Committee developed organizational policies and ensured effective governance structures and processes. It also oversaw the annual board nominations and elections process, including candidate vetting and education on board responsibilities.
External Relations Committee – The External Relations Committee plans advocacy efforts to represent the interests of our workforce on behalf of ADWA and its members. This includes working cooperatively with other committees and partner organizations, as appropriate, on matters of common interest and on aligning the ADWA Strategic Plan and other objectives of the Board.
Finance Committee – The Finance Committee oversees the Association’s finances and provides information to the board to support fiscally responsible decision-making. Duties include preparing budgets, accounting for funds, reporting on the ongoing financial status to the board, and arranging for regular reviews by an accounting firm.
Membership Committee – The Membership Committee develops strategies to recruit new members, retain current members, and engage the ADWA membership. This includes making recommendations to the board on ways to promote and increase membership, advising the board on membership needs, and, as appropriate, partnering with other committees on matters of common interest. Another significant part of the Membership Committee is the Champions Program; proud disability workers are willing to be the face of ADWA in their community and organization, speaking to others about what ADWA is doing, what they are doing in the disability profession, and sharing the latest in the E-bulletins.
